Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has notified the NFL and is willing to face punishment for his alleged role in the team’s win over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night.
Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker was called for an illegal touch after catching a pass on a two-point conversion attempt that would have given the Lions a 21-20 lead with 23 seconds left. Instead, Lions players and coach Dan Campbell were livid after Saturday night’s loss.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the officiating committee ruled that the Dan Skipper offensive tackle was valid, but that Decker offensive tackle was invalid. The captain refused to inform the referee before the game that he was eligible. Video evidence appears to corroborate Skipper’s story.
According to NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano, Goff said after the game that he was willing to be fined because Decker reported it, but Skipper was not. Regardless of what the NFL decides when considering this penalty, the Cowboys will win. Public services must be improved. This means the NFL will have to force officials to wear body cameras with microphones so some of these calls can be reviewed.
