Mac Allister, Robertson, Thiago: Liverpool’s full injury list and return date against Newcastle

Liverpool are enjoying a rare week off before returning to action against Newcastle United on New Year’s Day.The Reds ended 2023 with a 2-0 win over Burnley. Jurgen Klopp’s side are firmly in the Premier League title race but the Liverpool boss is hoping to get as many players back as possible.

Diogo Jota returned to action against Burnley after suffering a hamstring problem, coming off the bench to score the Reds’ second goal in the 90th minute. Ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Anfield, take a look at the current squad Liverpool’s injury list and see when some players could be fit again.

1. Alexis McAllister – CutThe midfielder suffered a serious setback in the 2-0 win against Sheffield United earlier this month and was taken off in the second half. Mac Allister will not be available after this date and may not be available for the rest of 2023. Return to action: Newcastle (H), Monday 1 January.

2.Andy Robertson – ShouldersThe left-back recently admitted he has no set date for when he will be available again. The Lunar New Year has been confirmed. Potential Earnings: January

3. Thiago Alcantara – Hips,The Spaniard did not play until the New Year. Thiago has not played for Liverpool since April and will need time to return to fitness if he is fully fit. Possible return date: January

4. Stefan Bajcetic is a calf.Liverpool have continued to call up the midfielder since undergoing adductor surgery in March before picking up a calf problem. Reverse playback possible: N/A

5. Joel Matip – KneeThe centre-back picked up a knee injury against Fulham earlier this month. It was later confirmed that Matip could miss the rest of the season with a torn cruciate ligament. Possible reverse games: N/A

6. Ben Doak – KneeThe teenager played 28 minutes in Liverpool’s under-21s’ win over Chelsea last weekend. And surgery is needed. Possible reverse plays: N/A

7. Kostas Tsimikas is the iliac crest.He will be sidelined for quite some time after fracturing his left back.
