Liverpool v Newcastle starting line-up – Predictions

Liverpool ended 2023 with a win over Burnley on Boxing Day and will now look to maintain their form in the title race in the new year.Newcastle travel to Anfield on the first day of 2024 with Eddie Howe in action for one of United’s highly anticipated friendlies, at least on paper. The Magpies have lost eight of their last 12 games in all competitions, most recently losing 3-1 to Nottingham Forest.

An injury crisis has plagued the season so far and Howe is likely to be without nine first-team regulars for the game on January 1.Furthermore, Liverpool have won five games in a row against Newcastle and haven’t lost to the Magpies in the Premier League since 1994. Jurgen Klopp has also measured Howe in recent games. With his Darwin Nunez-inspired 2-1 victory in August, Klopp became the first Premier League manager to win 11 consecutive games against another manager.

Newcastle is expected starting in 11 days:(4-3-3): Allison; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomes; Szoboszlai, Endo, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Jota
