As they did in the first leg at Anfield, the Fulham fans at Craven Cottage continued to boo Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final.The sound that echoed through the West London stadium confused many observers, especially neutral spectators. His name caused a stir when his place in the Reds’ starting line-up was announced before the game.
During the game, his every touch was tense. But why? The answer is (very) simple.Elliot came through Fulham’s academy and became the youngest player in Premier League history at the age of 16 years and 30 days. So it didn’t take long for Elliott to catch the attention of Liverpool, who signed him on July 28, 2019.
At the time, Fulham had just been relegated and Liverpool, who Elliott had supported as a child, were crowned European champions. Elliott played just three games for the London club before the urge to play for the European champions became overwhelming.court compensationFew people were upset by the move, but the situation angered Fulham fans.
Many now believe the 20-year-old has just left the Premier League and left at a time when he was needed the most.As he was only 16 at the time and not yet a professional player, the transfer fee also had to be determined by the court. Fulham fans claim the club would have been entitled to a much higher fee if the talented youngster had signed a professional contract with the Cottagers before moving to Liverpool.
Finally, on 10 February 2021, Professional Football’s Independent Remuneration Committee ruled that Liverpool would pay an undisclosed sum, which the Reds later confirmed was £1.5 million, plus additional bonuses of £2.8 million.
