Shortly after Las Vegas Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce discussed the possibility of his promotion, the franchise made its first big move: hiring a new general manager.
According to reports from ESPN and NFL Media, the Raiders have reached out to San Francisco 49ers general manager Adam Peters and Indianapolis Colts front office manager Ed Dobbs to approve a replacement for the fired Dave Ziegler.
Raiders interim general manager Champ Kelly is also expected to be a strong candidate, and other candidates are also strong. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday that Kelly could be in the running for another opening around the league.
Other teams with general manager vacancies include the Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers. Dobbs was a prospect in Las Vegas when Ziegler was hired two years ago. He has a connection with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who was an intern with the Raiders in 2003 and worked for the Raiders at the same time.Harbaugh is considered a head coaching target for the Raiders.
Peters is highly regarded in the NFL and Washington reached out to him for an interview. The Raiders will first hire a general manager to make a strong case for who will replace the fired Josh McDaniels. If Kelly steps up, Pierce may have a better chance. However, everything is smooth sailing and the process is officially underway.
