‘Lost control’ – X reacts to Anthony Taylor errors as Liverpool supporters fume

Liverpool supporters have taken to X to express their discontent towards referee Anthony Taylor during Monday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the opening 45 but went in at the break level after Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out for offside before Mohamed Salah missed a penalty.

Darwin Nunez also came close as he burst through on goal but couldn’t beat Martin Dubravka one-on-one. Dan Burn did turn the ball past Alisson Becker but Alexander Isak was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up to the goal.

Taylor brandished four yellow cards, two apiece for either side, but Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton managed to avoid retrospective action for a cynical trip on Dominik Szoboszlai as he marauded into the Magpies half.

Diaz was shown a yellow card after going down under the challenge from Bruno Guimaraes, Taylor saw no wrongdoing, much to the anger of the Colombian who was booked for dissent.

Trent Alexander-Arnold had his number noted in the book for kicking the ball away on the stroke of half-time.

Fans took to social media to highlight their anger at Taylor, many took aim at the lack of action taken against Joelinton, while some were left in disbelief by the officiating – here is how they reacted.

Liverpool’s New Year’s Day clash with Newcastle was the 57th time that the 45-year-old has been in charge of a Reds match. Taylor has been involved in more Liverpool matches than any other club with Arsenal and Chelsea trailing behind.
