Alan Shearer has slammed the decision to award Liverpool a second penalty against Newcastle United after Martin Dubravka was penalised for a foul on Diogo Jota.
Alexis Mac Allister threaded the Portugal international through but as he rounded the Slovakian goalkeeper, despite an open goal being at his mercy, he went down under the challenge.
Dubravka was booked and Mohamed Salah stepped up to fire Liverpool into a two-goal cushion. The Egyptian atoned for his earlier miss from the spot after Luis Diaz was brought down by Sven Botman.
What a great dive that is,” the Magpies record goalscorer tweeted with three rolling on the floor laughing emojis. His Match of the Day colleague Ian Wright tweeted, adding: “Would rather go down for a penalty than put the ball in an empty net!
“Seen it all!”
Shearer wasn’t done there as he quote-tweeted Wright’s post, writing: “F****** embarrassing.”
The Reds dominated the encounter against Newcastle United with Darwin Nunez missing a number of chances. Luis Diaz thought he put Jurgen Klopp’s side in front but Nunez was ruled offside.
The Colombian was then felled in the box handing Salah the opportunity from the spot but Dubravka guessed the right way, with Trent Alexander-Arnold blazing over the rebound.
