Liverpool are considering new defensive options after injuries to several key players in this transfer window. The Reds are currently without Kostas Tsimikas, a natural left-back who is good enough to play alongside Andy Robertson.
Jurgen Klopp had no choice but to deploy Joe Gomez on the left with worryingly few distribution options. With Tsimikas sidelined for an extended period with a spinal injury, Liverpool are eagerly awaiting the return of Robertson, who was sidelined after shoulder surgery in October. Their absence has left the Reds looking for reinforcements in the current transfer market.
According to FootballTransfers, the Premier League leaders have targeted Wolves’ Ryan Ait-Nouri but face competition from title rivals Arsenal. The Gunners are looking to bolster their left-back options and have tried to sign the 22-year-old without success.
Wolves have already rejected Arsenal’s reported demand for a big transfer fee for one of their key players. Ait-Nouri could leave the Midlands club at the end of the season or this month “if an offer in excess of £50m comes in”.Talks have “already” taken place between Liverpool and Wolves, but Arsenal are said to be interested in him as they believe he “fits” into Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Aitnouri is currently competing with Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations and was unable to play in domestic football until mid-February. That will certainly make potential January moves more difficult, but that won’t stop this season’s title rivals from showing interest. Aitnuri is a left back but has started 10 games as a left midfielder in all competitions this season.
