Liverpool have opened talks for a Premier League left-back amid an injury crisis.

Liverpool have been ‘linked’ with Fulham to sign Anthony Robinson in January, according to a report. The Reds are currently short of two senior left-back options due to injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson is speeding up his recovery from shoulder surgery and could return in January, while Tsimikas suffered a broken collarbone against Arsenal on 23 December.

As a result, Joe Gomez moved to Liverpool’s back line.Ahead of the Boxing Day win over Burnley, Jurgen Klopp highlighted the perilous situation the team finds themselves in amid an injury crisis. “When can Joey [Gomez] play all the next games before Robo comes back?” Klopp said: Costi is obviously out for a while so I’m not sure. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I haven’t had time to think about it now, but I’m sure someone will take that position.

Obviously, it is very painful and difficult for us.“Sometimes you get hurt and we all accept that. But broken bones are bad because they take so long to heal. Robbo went through the same thing. Another injury, but it takes a long time. We all know it.”We know we need luck right now and now we’ve got Joey and we’ve got to cover him and make sure he’s always ready to play.”

According to 90min, the Reds have contacted Fulham to discuss signing left-back Robinson, 26, in January. Despite signing a new five-year deal at Craven Cottage this summer, the United States international is believed to be open to a move, with Liverpool “currently engaging with Fulham in the hope of agreeing a deal”.It is not yet clear how much Fulham will ask for Robinson.

The Milton Keynes-born defender grew up in Liverpool and came through Everton’s youth academy, where he was named Under-18 Player of the Season in 2015. He produced a huge display for the Reds’ city rivals.
