Diogo Jota continues his impressive recent goalscoring run for Liverpool.

Diogo Jota continued his impressive run with his latest goal for Liverpool. The Portuguese stalwart returned from injury as the Reds beat Burnley 2-0 on Boxing Day, confirming three points at Turf Moor with a typically confident finish late in the game. After the game, Jurgen Klopp admitted he had gambled by bringing the striker back against medical advice. “We included him in the team anyway because he only trained twice and the medical department wanted,” the coach told reporters.

As I trained him more, I said, “He can make it at Burnley.” He did that tonight and now he can train well tomorrow and be ready to go to Newcastle. This will help a lot.”Jota’s latest goal has personal meaning as it is his 50th goal in all competitions for Liverpool. The win against Burnley took the Reds top of the Premier League and Jota’s unwavering ability to find the back of the net has been a huge help in the second half of the season.

The Portuguese remains a lucky charm for Liverpool. As Squawka points out, surprisingly, Jota has never lost a Premier League game in which he scored. That has now extended to 42 games, an impressive streak stretching back to his time as a Wolves player. In total, Jota scored 52 goals in the Premier League, 36 of them for Liverpool.

The former Porto star has missed eight games this season due to an injury sustained against Manchester City last November, but is still the Reds’ second top scorer behind Mohamed Salah with nine goals in 2023/24. Jota’s goal return gave Klopp a much-needed boost as the Egyptians qualify for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations.
