Liverpool defender Joe Gomez was recently mentioned as a transfer target for Saudi Arabia’s Al Etifaq, but Fabrizio Romano believes the Reds will not be willing to sell him.
As previously reported by Ben Jacobs for CaughtOffside, Gomez was one of the names discussed during a recent meeting between Al Ettifaq and their manager Steven Gerrard and Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
But now Romano has provided an update to CaughtOffside as part of his daily briefing routine, exclusively revealing that Liverpool’s position is that Gomez is not for sale and the 26-year-old is ready to join Anfield. However, according to Romano, Matip could be a player to watch at the end of the season even if he does not move from LFC this month.
In a recent column, Romano said of these players: “Despite rumors of a possible move to Al Etifaq, Joel Matip is currently not leaving Liverpool. Things could change in the summer and interest from Saudi Arabia could attract him.
“I don’t see Joe Gomez leaving either, he’s staying.”Matip has been a great playmaker for Liverpool, but it may be time for Matip to step up later this season, although Gomez still has a valuable starting role in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
