Trent Alexander-Arnold’s three points showed why another Liverpool record will be broken

It was a lot of water under the bridge last time, but it was worth the wait. It’s a long way from the Champions League semi-finals to Burnley’s Turf Moor.

Liverpool were comfortable with a 2-0 win over the Clarets on Boxing Day, but there was always a chance they would drop two points, even though their lead was just one goal away. Later, Trent Alexander-Arnold did his best to seal the score, perhaps playing the set piece.

Luis Diaz’s effort came from a superb angle and his shot was blocked by an impressive save from James Trafford. The last time the Liverpool duo created a big chance together at Villarreal was in May 2022.

Diaz has missed most of the season but Alexander-Arnold should find him regularly in an inverted midfield role. That was the case in the first half on Tuesday night. The Reds right back made a similar pass to Cody Gakpo from the right end of the center circle to the left side of the penalty area. Unfortunately, the Netherlands international was on target, but Diaz’s follow-up effort gave Liverpool two great chances at Burnley almost identical to Alexander-Arnold’s runs. And let’s not forget that the game comes second.

After the Reds drew 1-1 against Arsenal, Liverpool’s number 66 equalized again with a long pass. Mohamed Salah bagged his only assist of the season thanks to Dominic Szoboszlay’s assist against Nottingham Forest and the Reds may need to put Alexander-Arnold in position to make a permanent move possible for the Egyptian.
