Part of the public’s skepticism stemmed from last year’s claims that Prince William was reportedly having an affair with Lady Sarah Rose Hanbury. After a Mother’s Day photo-editing scandal and her subsequent public appearance at a farm shop, when she was said to appear miserable, this rumor gained more traction.
The media has also contributed to the spread of rumors by obsessively covering the subject and giving unfounded assertions and speculative accounts of events undue weight.
The many stories being spread on the grapevine cover a wide range of topics, such as cloning, anorexia, mental health issues, divorce, training to be a queen, and problems following purported cosmetic surgery. According to some ridiculous rumors, she was killed and her body double, Heidi Agan, was changed. A denial and clarification had to be made subsequently. In the meantime, some attempted to connect the incident in some way to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sudden departure from the palace.
