The good stuff that happened for the Lions against the Cowboys.

Well, I’m mad and maybe you are too. Maybe you just want to be. Friends welcome the new year! Now is the time to go out with your friends, kiss someone at midnight and start a new romance, or kiss someone you’ve been dating for 20 years and rekindle that romance. Maybe you don’t love anyone and that’s okay. If we don’t get a good result in this match, we can’t be happy at midnight. It is positive here.

The Detroit Lions defense was clearly on display in this game, and quite frankly, it has been for the past three weeks. When it comes to offense, the Cowboys are no joke. The Lions are the highest scoring team this season and usually shut them down all night. Sure, CeeDee Lamb was a great match, but she basically brought nothing. A 92-yard field goal would have negated the controversy if Derrick Barnes had simply beat Dak Prescott in his own end zone earlier in the game.

The Lions continued to play very well. They pressed, came home several times and forced two substitutions. By the way, they are doing well this round. They have forced seven fumbles in their last three games. They have also recorded eight sacks in the last three games. So they figure it out. The Lions defense went from allowing 29.8 points per game in the first five games to giving up 20.3 points per game in the last three games. This is an important difference. To make matters worse, this defense, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Alim McNeil and James Huston returned immediately.

Gardner-Johnson has been practicing for two weeks, James Houston returned to practice Thursday and Alim McNeal is expected to return to practice next week and even play against the Vikings in Week 18. Everyone has to be ready for the playoffs. The Lions weren’t at their best offensively Saturday night, but they’ve still scored 30 or more points in five of their last eight games and still have one of the most dangerous offenses in history. N.F.L.

Currently, no team has allowed more offensive yards than the Lions and they are fourth in scoring. You might be a little disappointed with the way Saturday’s game ended. Trust me. Even so, I’m not criticizing you. There’s a lot to like about this football team coming together as they approach their first home away from home at the end of the season. This is a playoff game and the first at Ford Field since 1993.
