Liverpool fans are wondering why the decision to disallow Cody Gakpo’s goal against Burnley was not overturned. The Reds traveled to Turf Moor knowing they could go top of the Premier League by at least a point and started strongly thanks to a fine goal from Darwin Nunes six minutes later.
His aim was assisted by every gun and the Dutchman thought he had done just that. At the end of the first half, he scored a goal himself. However, he was not allowed to finish the game as referee Paul Tierney flagged the run for a foul.Nunes was adjudged to have fouled Charlie Taylor in the penalty area and VAR reviewed the goal to be disallowed.
But Liverpool fans were outraged on social media, with one fan asking X: “What happened to the goal?!? “Gakpo was robbed,” he said, adding: “At that point, Gakpo’s goal was denied because it was too soft.””Gakpo needs to score 1 goal and 2 assists in 33 minutes,” said a third, along with a laughing emoji.
A fourth official said: “The VAR results showed that Nunes did not touch the Burnley player, so why was Gakpo’s goal disallowed?” The Reds led 1-0 at half-time after missing chances to double their lead, including a Mohamed Salah strike that rattled Clarets goalkeeper James Trafford.
