The San Francisco 49ers often go undefeated with Brock Purdy as their starting quarterback.
But Green Bay Packers quarterback Devonte Wyatt believes he learned something important after watching Purdy this season that will help him and the rest of his defense knock off the 49ers in the divisional round. That’s how you force Purdy to throw the ball for a turnover.
“When the D-linemen press him, he always throws or gets behind them or drops or is short,” Wyatt said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic . “If you put pressure on it, it’s a guarantee we’ll get a sale.”There may be something to White’s theory.
This season, Purdy had the third-most passing yards (5), sixth-most interceptions (6) and sixth-highest turnover percentage (5.4), according to Pro Football Focus. In four losses this season, Purdy has nine interceptions, two fumbles and 44 percent of his returns. For context, Purdy was pressured just 36% of the time per PFF during his 12 wins.
If the Packers have any chance of pulling off a comeback in Santa Clara, they can count on one of the strongest defensive fronts in the NFC. The Packers ranked 17th in sacks (45) during the regular season, averaging 20.8 pressures, 13.8 hurries and 3.7 QB hits per game.
