Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League, two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, and manager Jurgen Klopp will be keen to see his side extend their lead.Liverpool have Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League games ahead of them in the second half of the season, as well as the Premier League title hunt.
The German could strengthen his squad in the current transfer window with reports that the Merseysiders are interested in the Chelsea star.Liverpool have been interested in Blues centre-back Levi Colville since the 90th minute. The report claims that Manchester United are interested in the Englishman, despite Colwill recently signing a new long-term contract with his current club.
Colwill, 20, is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy and has broken into the first team at Stamford Bridge this season after impressing on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion last season. Following his success on the south coast, Colwill attracted interest from Liverpool and Brighton but ended up staying in west London.
In August, the defender signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for a further 12 months. The centre-back has made 26 appearances in all competitions so far this season, missing just one of the Blues’ 20 Premier League games.Despite featuring regularly under Mauricio Pochettino, Colwill was mainly used as a makeshift left-back rather than in a central defensive role.
Reports suggest Liverpool are still monitoring the player’s condition and could reconsider the move at some point.Despite their interest, Chelsea are not interested in selling the former Huddersfield Town loanee and instead see him as the club’s future captain.
