Manchester United make ‘verbal offer’ for Andre Onana as Inter Milan asking price revealed

Manchester United have made a verbal offer to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

United currently have a major goalkeeping dilemma on their hands, with David de Gea currently a free agent after his contract expired on June 30.

With Jack Butland’s loan deal with the club also having expired, EriktenHag‘s side are set to enter pre-season with Dean Henderson – who spent last season on loan at Nottingham ,Forest – as their number one goalkeeper.

According to the Daily Mirror, the club aren’t willing to completely cut ties with De Gea just yet until they have found a replacement, and they could yet hand the goalkeeper fresh terms to stay at Old Trafford.

Onana, who impressed with his distribution against Manchester City in the Champions League final last month, is one alternative they have found.

Romano also provided an update on United’s efforts to sign the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

Romano on Onana to Man Utd

Romano disclosed on Twitter that United had made a verbal bid for Onana, but that there hasn’t yet been a trade agreement between the club and Inter.

Understand that Manchester United made their verbal offer for Andre Onana in the morning, he said. Total package cost, including add-ons: £39m. The offer will shortly become official.

“Inter anticipate paying a total of €60 million (£51.4 million) for Onana. Currently, there is no agreement. Onana is eager to move.

He quickly overhauled Samir Handanovic to become the club’s number one goalkeeper, and produced a string of impressive performances in the Champions League.

Onana kept five clean sheets in the competition – the highest of any goalkeeper – while his short and long distribution under pressure is one of his key strengths.

Should United sign the Cameroonian, it remains unclear whether that would spell the end for De Gea at Old Trafford.

The Sun reports that Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League is prepared to extend a £250,000-per-week contract to the Spaniard, which, if accepted, would reunite him with former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
