While Liverpool celebrate Darwin Núñez’s goal in their Boxing Day win over Burnley, Benfica have reason to smile at the achievement.According to today’s O Jogo newspaper, the striker’s last game for United will cost another €5 million. It will be recalled that Liverpool initially paid Nunes €75m and another €25m in bonuses based on performance targets.
Manchester United paid €5 million for the club’s first 10 matches in the Premier League and Champions League. He has now made 35 starts and will receive another €5 million. A third bonus of 5 million euros will be awarded after 60 starts in the race. If Liverpool win the tournament, they will pay another 10 million euros.
Nunez has scored 23 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 games since joining the Reds in the summer of 2022. O Jogo also insisted he is yet to reach his full potential in Portugal, although he is still only 24 and has plenty of time to succeed at Liverpool, who are currently top of the table.
