Liverpool defender Van Dijk: why I take club captaincy very seriously

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says he is proud to captain the club.Van Dijk was signed after Jordan Henderson left for AL Etipack this season. He told AD: “(Taking over the captaincy) was a sign of gratitude and confidence.

When it comes to leadership, I honestly worry about how my managers, coaches, and peers see me. I think they are the best judges.”I really like the role of captain. I love helping the younger kids, seeing the bigger picture of the club and really getting involved.

“Recently I attended the under 9 and 10 tournaments in Liverpool. A lot of the under-18s train before us so we try to get to the training ground early. “I’m not just the captain of the team, I’m the captain of the whole club.”
