Liverpool confirm one starter against Fulham as selection hint dropped for Carabao Cup semi-final

Caoimhin Kelleher scored another goal for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Liverpool face Fulham in the first leg of their semi-final at Anfield and it could be 180 minutes before they get to Wembley. This would certainly be a significant achievement for Jurgen Klopp’s side after an overhaul of the squad in the summer transfer window.

With Liverpool so close to the final, Klopp may be tempted to stick with the No. 1 Alisson Becker. But Kelleher was the Reds’ stopper in the league and the hero of their penalty shoot-out victory over champions Chelsea two years ago. And the Ireland international will aim to bring Liverpool one step closer to the National Stadium by beating Fulham.

“Caoim will start tomorrow because he is the best player in this competition,” assistant manager Pep Linders told the club’s website.Liverpool will need to make a change at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold out for three weeks. He picked up a knee injury in last weekend’s 2-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal and Conor Bradley is likely to join the squad. But Linders admitted he wasn’t sure if a comprehensive fix would be made.

He added: “It’s different [to previous rounds] because we played Arsenal two days ago. We have a busy schedule in December so we will have to see who is ready, who can go and who fits. We are very happy to have reached the semi-finals in January, which is where we wanted to be. So we’re going for it.”
