The Dallas Cowboys held on for a 20-19 win in the final 23 seconds over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night.
The Lions came up with an ingenious plan to confuse the Cowboys with a two-point conversion attempt that could have won the game. Coach Dan Campbell said he notified the officials before implementing the play mechanism because Taylor Decker will report as an eligible receiver. However, the referee threw a flag and declared that Decker failed to score.
Former NFL wide receiver and ESPN analyst Andrew Hawkins briefly explained what happened in the game.“I think the Lions threw three umpires in the umpire’s box to confuse the Cowboys. #70 [Captain Dan Fight] Raise your hand to confuse the cowboys. Instead, they messed up the referee,” Hawkins tweeted.
Regardless of what happened, this play caused a lot of controversy in the NFL world. Campbell was also upset after the loss.
