The basketball world lost a true legend when Milenko Savović passed away in Belgrade on March 1, 2021, after complications from COVID-19. A towering presence both on and off the court, Savović’s name is forever linked with KK Partizan, where he captained the team with honor and lifted multiple league titles, cups, and European trophies.
Standing at nearly 7 feet tall, he wasn’t just a dominant center—he was a leader whose composure, grit, and sportsmanship inspired generations. From the Yugoslav League championships in 1979, 1981, and 1987, to the Korać Cup triumphs in 1978, 1979, and 1989, Savović’s career was a showcase of consistency and greatness.
Fans and teammates remember him not only for his skill but also for his humility. His loss left a void in the hearts of the Partizan family and in Serbian basketball at large. For many, he embodied the spirit of resilience and dedication that defined an era of the game.
Today, his legacy lives on in the memories of those who saw him play, the players he inspired, and the history books where his name will never fade.
Milenko Savović, 1960–2021. Forever a captain, forever a legend.
