Cornerback Anthony Averett spent the weekend participating in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and he will be around for a while longer.
According to Averett’s agent, Chad Wiestling, the Steelers signed him to a one-year contract after watching him work out for the team.
Averett had time with the 49ers and Lions last season, but did not play during the regular season. He appeared in seven games and made six starts for the Raiders in 2022, and he started 21 of the Raiders’ 44 games from 2018 to 2021.
Averett has 114 tackles, three interceptions, and 23 passes defensed in his career.
