In a funny double-tweet, the rapper admits he’s “still figuring out” how to utilize social media in celebration of his Detroit Lions capturing the NFC North title for the first time since 1993
After the Lions won the NFC North title and a postseason appearance for the first time in thirty years, Sunday was a day of celebration throughout the city of Detroit.
Among those celebrating was an ecstatic Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers), who shared a funny double-tweet following the Lions’ 30-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
‘@Lions I did it!!!!!,” Mathers tweeted on Sunday, nearly immediately following it with a correction.
The rapper corrected himself, “WE did it dammit, still figuring out how to use this thing.”
Even though Eminem has been using Twitter since March 2009, one can overlook his enthusiastic posts.
Before jokes about ‘figuring out’ how to utilize Twitter, Eminem seemed to take credit for the victory.
They suffered a heartbreaking 26-6 away loss to the Seattle Seahawks to finish the playoffs. The next week, Seattle would fall short against Atlanta and witness the Falcons advance all the way to the Super Bowl in that particular year.
However, the Lions’ lack of division titles lasted precisely thirty years; their final NFC North championship came in 1993.
Barry Sanders was one of the standout running backs for those Lions, but he had the worst season of his career and had damaged his PCL and MCL early in the season.
That squad had a similar result to the 2016 squad. At the historic Pontiac Silverdome, the 1993 Lions played the division foe Green Bay Packers and fell 28–24 in the Wild card sling.
In the final seconds, the Lions were ahead 30-24 when third-year cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu made a game-winning interception at the five-yard line.
