WHEN TOPPS HAD (BASE)BALLS!: ALL-TIME CLASSIC CARD-1976 PETE ROSE
The man was at his best in the mid-1970s, collecting hit after hit, coupled with a pair of championships, an MVP Award, all-star nominations, and a terrifying “winner-take-all” scowl that Topps captured well here! I recall seeing this card for the first time in 1976, when opening a new pack at my cousin’s house in Yonkers, and just FEELING this guy’s magnificence! The card itself is wonderful. The colors, the large magnificent “all-star” insignia, and Rose staring right at you as if to say “Remember Ray Fosse?” with his era-perfect sideburns. Perfect! One of my all-time favorite cards, alongside the 1976 Bench, 1978 Reggie, and 1977 Rusty Staub.
