The Detroit Lions are officially in the NFL playoffs. With a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Lions were crowned NFC North champions and will play their first playoff game at Ford Field. The last time Detroit was a division champion, they played in the NFC Central Division and played a playoff game at the Pontiac Silverdome. Now, under third-year coach Dan Campbell, the 2023 Lions are making history.
Now the club is looking for its first postseason win since 1991.The Lions are currently the second seed in the NFC. However, the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles both play on Monday to wrap up Week 16. The Eagles play the New York Giants while San Francisco plays Baltimore in a battle for the current seed in both conferences.
With Monday’s loss to the 49ers, the Lions could move into a tie for the top seed in the NFC. But the NFL’s decisive action means the top seed will still belong to San Francisco. The Week 17 matchup between Detroit and Dallas will have major playoff implications. If both are division winners and finish with the same record, the winner of the matchup will have a playoff tiebreaker. The Cowboys enter the game with a 10-5 record after losing to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Anupdated look at the NFC standings after Sunday’s action:
