The Jack Hammett Sports Complex in Costa Mesa may soon welcome a new NFL club, as municipal officials revealed on Friday that they were in discussions with the Las Vegas Raiders regarding the facility’s usage as a summer training camp in 2024.
At its normal meeting on Tuesday, the Costa Mesa City Council will talk about the prospect of mediating a one-year deal for the Fairview Road site, which the Los Angeles Chargers, who had trained there since 2017, just abandoned.
According to a release issued on Friday, “Costa Mesa is proud to be one of only two cities in the country to host an NFL team’s summer training camp in a publicly owned facility. Jack Hammett is a treasure, and we are excited to potentially have a new NFL team training here.” The Raiders would be required to pay $165,000 in rent to the city and commit to improving the fields at the 14.5-acre facility, likely costing $600,000.
In addition to providing 100 tickets for local schoolchildren to see an NFL game in Southern California, the team also agreed to start a junior training camp for children aged 6 to 12 and provide $10,000 to a local youth sports organization. In addition to providing 100 tickets for local schoolchildren to see an NFL game in Southern California, the team also agreed to start a junior training camp for children aged 6 to 12 and provide $10,000 to a local youth sports organization.
