Will Kate Middleton Become Queen?

It’s been over two years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from their official duties. And now that Queen Elizabeth has sadly passed away, we can’t stop thinking about what’s next for the royal family. For example, will Kate Middleton become queen? While the answer is yes (sort of), it obviously won’t happen for quite some time, since her father-in-law, King Charles, just ascended the throne. Here’s what you need to know.

Not really. The Princess of Wales will probably become queen consort if all goes according to plan. According to the official royal family website, it’s tradition for royals-by-marriage to become consorts. For instance, King Charles’s Queen Consort is officially Camilla Parker Bowles.

We don’t have an exact answer, but it will likely happen in our lifetime. You see, King Charles is already 73 years old, so he won’t have a historically long rule like Queen Elizabeth. This means Prince William and Princess Catherine could become king and queen consort in another decade or two. You know, right when their three children—Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4)—are in their prime teenage years or early 20s.
