Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made Merseyside derby history by beating Everton 2-0 at Anfield in October, making them their ninth Premier League champions.
No manager has won more, with Klopp suffering just one defeat in 18 games against the Toffees behind closed doors. It’s an incredible achievement and despite Everton often being underdogs in recent years, Klopp is proud of his achievement.
The Toffees have also won the FA Cup twice in the Klopp era, with a very young XI knocking out Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the third round in 2020 thanks to a stunning goal from Curtis Jones. The Merseyside rivals also played each other at one stage two years ago when Virgil van Dijk made his debut following his £95million move from Southampton. The Dutchman stepped up to head home the winner after Gylfi Sigurdsson had denied James Milner.
He jumped in front of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and now footage has emerged on social media of Liverpool stars Jones and Cody Gakpo watching the classic match. Neither side is particularly full of praise for the England No.1.In a video shared by The Anfield Wrap, Gakpo smiles and asks his Anfield team-mate: “What’s the goalkeeper doing?” he asks. Looking at the lens. After praising Van Dijk, Jones continued to suffer.
“What is he doing? What is he doing?”Pickford’s error allowed the powerful Willian to score a goal that would go down in the derby a month later. Van Dijk, who struggled to weave his way through Everton’s tenacious defence, looked set to miss Liverpool’s last chance in added time when his shot went up in the air.
