The Boston Celtics led the Miami Heat on Thursday, but star Kristaps Porzingis left the game with a sprained ankle.
Porzingis sprained his left ankle while attempting a shot in the third quarter and limped into the locker room. His return was immediately considered questionable, but he returned to the Celtics’ bench early in the final frame.
In the end, the big man was ejected and finished with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Porzingis is also slated to miss the Celtics’ game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, but Boston coach Joe Mazula shared a promising update, according to Suichi Terada of Mass Live News.”Joe Mazzulla says he doesn’t expect Kristaps Porzingis to be out long with a sprained foot.”
The Celtics hope their star big man can return to full strength soon. Porzingis is having a very productive season for Boston, averaging 19 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Porzingis has struggled with injuries recently. He was available for the Jan. 25 game against the Heat, but previously missed games against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Boston is currently in first place in the NBA Eastern Conference with 35 wins and 10 losses this season. They are four games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks, who had a coaching change. Despite Porzingis suffering a left ankle injury, the Celtics have won seven of their last 10 games.
