The Raiders are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of a quarterback this offseason, and a rumor surfaced Thursday that could be related to the Raiders’ pursuit of a quarterback.
USC cornerback Caleb Williams doesn’t want to play for the No. 1-seeded Chicago Bears, according to Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd. Select design #1. Historically, Cowherd can be all over the place with his own shot, but he looks good in coverage on Kingsbury.
It was Cowherd who first linked the Raiders to Kingsbury two weeks ago. With Kingsbury expected to join the Raiders, Cowherd’s comments about Williams last week are more relevant than ever to Raider fans today. Cowherd said Williams and his father have a close relationship with Kingsbury, and the Bears were believed to have tried to recruit Kingsbury last week to appeal to Williams.
[The Bears] text [Caleb Williams]. We’re going to hire people you like,” Cowherd said last week. “If it was a trade war, the Bears would outbid every offer to get Kingsbury. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes here.”If Williams wants to play alongside Kingsbury, the Raiders should be a good team to move up to the first pick right away. Especially if the Bears feel like Williams doesn’t want to play for them.
If the Raiders are interested in moving up in the draft, the cost would certainly be significant. It is probably unprecedented. With Williams’ career streak surpassing that of any quarterback in recent memory, the Bears will likely want the no. 1 more this year than a year ago. So let’s take a look at the deal they made with their first pick last year.
