Kyrie Irving, a guard with the Dallas Mavericks, had surgery on Tuesday to fix a broken left hand. Earlier this month, Irving sustained the injury while working out.
Although Irving’s recovery period for basketball activities was not specified by the Mavericks, there was hope that he would be well enough to take part in training camp in approximately two and a half months. The eight-time All-Star Irving was crucial to the Mavericks’ trip to the NBA Finals. Throughout the postseason, he averaged 22.2 points and 5.1 assists per game.
The 32-year-old Irving was instrumental in luring Klay Thompson to the Mavs in free agency. In the regular season, Irving averaged 25.6 points and 5.2 assists.
