The Pittsburgh Steelers had the opportunity to acquire one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL this offseason. It’s too early to tell if they’ve done that with the current hiring and rehiring, but the names signed today don’t carry the same weight as some potential candidates.
Pittsburgh decided to go with what they now know could be a smart play or situation. As a QB coach, I think keeping Sullivan is the best move. The obvious connection to Kenny Pickett and the revitalization of the offense when he took over won him the job, as Sullivan even interviewed to be the OC elsewhere. But the same is true for hiring the WR coach. First of all, Azzani had a talent for circumference through Denver and New York, but he endeavored to cross the ball at a high level. But beyond that, I clearly missed the chance to meet Hines Ward. It was not a pleasant experience.
After his playing career, Ward spent most of his career coaching at the collegiate and professional levels. This means that he or she is qualified to do the job.So while it may seem disappointing at first glance, the Steelers are confident in their recruiting process. One thing is clear. Pittsburgh will have a new offense this season. How well is this crime executed? This is still under discussion.
