Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter stated that the penalty occurred because Garoppolo used prescription drugs without permission from his medical team. Garoppolo will not repeat the ban. The Raiders are expected to release Garoppolo, and Schefter said that could happen before Day 5 of the new league next month ahead of the $11.25 million roster addition.
Las Vegas signed Garoppolo to a three-year contract worth $72.5 million last offseason. But things didn’t go exactly as planned. The 32-year-old started just six games in 2023 before moving to the bench. During his time on the field, he threw for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions, completing 65.1 percent of his passes and earning a 77.7 passer rating. Garoppolo played college football at Eastern Illinois and was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
He spent the first three years of his career as Tom Brady’s backup, but was eventually traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. Garoppolo will play for the 49ers from 2017 to 2022, starting with the 2019-20 season. . Still, Garoppolo has never stopped feeling like he’s a product of Kyle Shanahan’s system in San Francisco, and it’s hard to argue with that at this point. Jimmy Garoppolo is definitely going somewhere this summer, but it’s hard to imagine what kind of job he’s starting out at this point.
