Mark Lawrenson believes Liverpool “dodged a bullet” by not signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton last summer. The Reds accepted a £110m bid for the Ecuador international, but the player eventually left for Chelsea for £115m.
Lawrenson, who watched Caicedo in action in the Blues’ 4-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side in midweek, told Paddy Power about his successful escape from his former club:”The way Chelsea are playing, I think Liverpool dodged a bullet signing Moises Caicedo for us this summer. It was fun to see Liverpool fans singing about their midfielders during a Chelsea game. Liverpool’s signing has helped in every way. We scored a goal and formed a good attacking trio.
Wataru Endo also performed well, who seemed a little light. “I think it has a lot to do with Jurgen Klopp and the way he plays.”It was fun to see Liverpool fans singing about their midfielders during a Chelsea game. Dominick Szoboszlai, Alexis McAllister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenbirch performed well at various levels.Conversely, despite being a more expensive player than all these players, Caicedo has not had the same impact at Stamford Bridge. As Lawrenson pointed out, Klopp relies on a manager who has the ability to quickly integrate his new players into his squad.
