The Denver Broncos have yet to win a game since George Patton took over as general manager, but the head coaching job is safe.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported in their Sunday column for NFL Media that Paton’s job is safe. They say Paton’s appreciation for his overall talent and relationship with Sean Payton will help him keep his job.
Swapping Patton for Russell Wilson and naming Nathaniel Hackett as head coach in 2022 was disastrous, but the team’s turnaround from a shaky start in 2023 is encouraging. The Broncos started the season 1-5 and finished 8-9 with a 7-4 mark in their last 11 games. It also looks like the Broncos will part ways with Wilson this offseason and go with Paton and Payton.
The Broncos went 20-31 in Paton’s three seasons as general manager. Denver is still looking for its first winning season since 2016 and its first playoff appearance since 2015. You may feel that you can achieve your goal with the Paton/Python combination.
