The Las Vegas Raiders are making a surprising move by hiring a new general manager.Raiders hire Tom Telesco as new general manager. Telesco was the Chargers’ general manager from 2013 to 2023. He was fired last December along with head coach Brandon Staley.
Telesco, 51, has more than 30 years of NFL management experience. He acquired big picks like Justin Herbert, Joey Bosa and Keenan Allen. His other moves included trading Khalil Mack and signing Austin Ekeler as a free agent. The Raiders now have a new general manager and head coaching combination in Telesco and Antonio Pierce.
Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels as the Raiders’ interim coach. He went 5-4 as an interim coach and was named full-time coach last week. Telesco replaces the fired Dave Ziggler with McDaniels. Champion Kelly served as the team’s interim general manager, but will now be replaced by Telesco.
Telesco’s hiring is surprising for several reasons. First, it comes from division rivals the Raiders. Second, it looked like Kelly would continue in his role as general manager, but the Raiders decided to select Telesco instead.
