The Las Vegas Raiders have been trying to come up with a game plan for Chris Jones for the past eight years. Can you convince him to sign up this season? In an article listing Jones’ most likely destinations in free agency, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kaye listed the Raiders as one of the top landing spots.
Jones spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping the team win three Super Bowl titles. That included Sunday night when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers. The 29-year-old didn’t record a sack against the 49ers, but did have four tackles and two quarterback interceptions. He was everywhere in Kansas City’s win, and his presence drew a lot of attention from San Francisco’s offensive line.
During the regular season, Jones recorded 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four passes defensed en route to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and second first-team All-Pro selection. Jones, who played college football at Mississippi State University, was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In his third season, Jones established himself as one of the league’s top defensive players with 40 tackles, 15.5 sacks, an interception, multiple forced fumbles and a defensive fumble. Amazingly, he did not make the Pro Bowl that year.
Jones made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2019 and has been at the event ever since, recording 15.5 more sacks in 2022 along with 44 tackles, a forced fumble and a pair of fumble recoveries. Kansas City would certainly like to keep their superstar, but financial constraints may make that impossible. If Jones hits free agency, it would certainly be painful for the Chiefs if he ends up signing with a division rival of the Raiders.
