Pete Rose loves seeing the resurgent Reds: ‘Playing like Big Red Machine’
He unwinds in his Las Vegas home, flicks on the big-screen TV, and, like every other baseball fan these days, is captivated by what he sees. He’s watching the beloved baseball club steal our hearts, captivate our souls, and pique our interest. Pete Rose, baseball’s all-time hit king, can’t stop thinking about his former team, the Cincinnati Reds.
“These guys don’t remind me of the Big Red Machine,” Rose tells USA TODAY Sports, “but they certainly play like the Big Red Machine.” I watch them every night. It is unbelievable. “Three weeks ago, they played stinko. I never imagined this would happen a month ago. That’s not how these people were playing. Now I can finally wear my Reds cap in public without fans throwing rocks at me.
