The New Orleans Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers have been fined for violating injury reports, NBA officials said in a news release. The Pelicans were fined $25,000 for not listing guard/forward Trey Murphy III on the injury report for Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Sixers were fined $75,000 for failing to “accurately and timely” place All-Star center Joel Embiid on the injury report for Saturday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets.Embiid came back and attempted a counterattack. After playing for the Golden State Warriors, he suffered an injury to his left knee. Sixers coach Nick Nurse said after the game that the injury was unrelated to Embiid’s previous left knee problem.
The league has been looking into injury reports and player absences this season, which has led to controversy. To receive postseason awards (and the financial bonuses that often accompany them), a player must play at least 65 games. Although the league office has overlooked this, it is an agreed upon rule by the NBA Players Association.
