Nicole Kidman claims that Jodie Foster took her place on a big-budget movie while she was…
Nicole Kidman is appreciative that Jodie Foster took her place in “Panic Room” (2002) as she was “having a breakdown.” During a roundtable discussion with Kidman, Naomi Watts, Brie Larson, Jennifer Aniston, Anna Sawai, and SofÃa Vergara, Foster, 61, said to The Hollywood Reporter, “There’s this misconception that somehow female actresses are at each other, or they don’t like each other or whatever.” “Like, Nicole, I took over a movie that you had to leave.” Kidman answered, “Yeah! And I’m grateful. I was in a terrible place. I was saying to myself, “I’m breaking down.” Thank the Lord, Jodie took over.”
In the 2002 thriller, Foster and a young Kristen Stewart—who played her daughter—were forced to hide when burglars broke into their New York apartment and forced them into the panic room.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Kidman had begun filming the film but withdrew after suffering a severe knee injury during the production of the 2001 musical “Moulin Rouge”.
She didn’t go into detail in the Hollywood Reporter interview about why she thought she was going through a “breakdown,” but it was concurrent with the dissolution of her first marriage to Tom Cruise in 2001, an 11-year marriage. She is currently wed to musician Keith Urban. She talked about the emotional toll her divorce had on her earlier this year, despite the fact that her career was soaring. “My personal life was a struggle, but my work life was going great,” the 56-year-old said to Dave Karger for his book “50 Oscar Nights,” which was published in January. “That’s what happens, right?”
According to People magazine, Kidman was describing how she was unable to celebrate her Oscar victory for “The Hours,” in 2003. “So, I literally walked in [to the Vanity Fair party afterward], carried it around, was completely overwhelmed, emotional, shaking and I didn’t enjoy it,” Kidman said. “I nearly felt bad, which is ridiculous. I wish I had had more time to enjoy it.”
