The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Kawan Baker and wanted to sign him to a future contract, the team announced Tuesday.Baker was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was taken with the 255th pick in the draft, four more than the last pick.
He spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad and signed a future contract with the team through the 2022 season. But before he could start the game, he was suspended for the first six games of the season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs and was eventually waived by the Saints. The Green Bay Packers picked him up two days later and signed him to their practice squad. However, his stay here lasted less than a month. A few weeks later he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was released six days later.
His second stint with New Orleans began at the end of the 2022 season, when he re-signed with the team to a future contract. Baker spent all of training camp with the team, but was released as part of the most recent roster cuts and did not sign with another team until the 2023 season.
