Max Crosby got that wish when the Las Vegas Raiders decided to hire Antonio Pierce as their head coach. Now he wants the team to make some additions to the roster. Crosby campaigned this week for the Raiders to sign Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones, who will hit free agency in the offseason.”
I want to get Chris Jones right away,” Crosby told Heavy.com’s Austin Boyd. “I know Chris very well. My point is, there are a lot of great defensive tackles in free agency. I think that would be good. I mean, Chris Jones is one of the best in the game, if not the best at what he does. I know he’s the boss, but if you want to come to the Raiders, come. I will.”Las Vegas’ defensive front duo of Crosby and Jones will be formidable, to say the least.
In 16 games this season, Jones recorded 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four interceptions en route to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl berth while also earning his second consecutive First Team All-Pro selection. The 29-year-old missed Week 1 of the season due to a contract dispute with the Chiefs, but the two sides eventually agreed to a one-year deal. Still, Jones is looking for a big payday this spring, and Kansas City has shown it’s not afraid to let go of past stars. For example, two years ago, the Chiefs traded superstar Tyreek Hill due to financial constraints.
The Raiders enter the offseason with significant cap space, so they should have enough money to sign Jones if they want to.Jones, who played college football at Mississippi State University, was drafted by Kansas City in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He had 15.5 sacks twice, in 2018 and 2022.Let’s see if Maxx Crosby can convince the Las Vegas front office to spend big on Chris Jones in March. The Brass Raiders clearly appreciate his contribution.
