Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur criticized the NFL for misinterpreting FOX reporter Tom Rinaldi’s comments about kicker Anders Carlson during the broadcast of Saturday’s 24-21 NFC round loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
After Carlson missed a 41-yard field goal that would have given Green Bay a 24-17 lead late in the fourth quarter, Rinaldi LaFleur explained how he would handle his rookie quarterback. “When I talked to coach Matt LaFleur, he basically said, ‘I’m just praying when it comes out,'” Rinaldi said. LaFleur said Rinaldi twisted his words during the season-ending news conference. “It’s very unfortunate that this message was delivered in this way,” Lafleur said.
“I’ve attended industry conferences since I became a coordinator, but I’ve never experienced anything like this. But that’s it. I talked to Anders about it. I think if something happens out of your control you can talk about it, joke about it and have fun with it. But that’s how she’s portrayed. “It was a lesson for me.”Packers expect HC Matt LaFleur to win. 49ers: “The Sting”Carlson’s layup wasn’t perfect, but it gave Green Bay a chance to close the game.
That certainly didn’t happen as San Francisco went on a 12-game, 69-yard hitting streak. After the game, LaFleur said the loss was “tough,” especially considering the expectations they had on the field. “It stings,” LaFleur said. “One of the reasons things are bad now is that we believed and expected to win this game. Credit San Francisco: Later they did more under difficult circumstances. This is a tough football team.
But we felt that there were many chances to not get our hands on the game, but unfortunately it was not enough.”It’s not just a play. I’m sure most of the time it will come down to a missed field goal, but there are plenty of opportunities. In the first half, they had three chances in the red zone and scored six points. There are many pieces, but if the pieces were different, there could be a different outcome right now.
