It hasn’t been a particularly busy transfer window for the Premier League’s elite clubs, and that certainly applies to Liverpool as well.
Many names have been linked with a move to Anfield, but Jurgen Klopp is not expected to sign a new deal this winter. But in the transfer market, everything is moving fast for Liverpool.A number of Liverpool players have emerged in recent years, including Wataru Endo and Dominic Szoboslay last summer.
So the Reds still have little chance to strengthen their ranks in January. The end of the transfer window is a perfect world for Liverpool. If there’s one area Liverpool have been lacking this season, it’s the core of their defence. It’s certainly not for lack of quality. Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and young prospect Jarrell Kwanza have all had outstanding performances, but injuries could affect United’s future.
Joel Matip is out for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, while Konate and Joe Gomez are doubtful with injuries. If anything, the latter has been easier to place at fullback this season and has thrived in that position. It is unclear whether Liverpool will extend the 32-year-old’s contract as his contract expires this summer.
Otherwise, there would be little harm in bringing in a new centre-back in January who could help them settle on Merseyside and strengthen the Reds’ defense ahead of the second half of the season. One man who has previously been scouted by Liverpool and is heavily linked with a move to Anfield is centre-back Goncalo Inacio.
The Sporting CP defender has impressed in Portugal’s top flight and has also won five caps for the Portuguese national team. The 22-year-old left-footed centre-back has huge potential and has also been linked with Arsenal and Real Madrid.
A release clause of just under £52m would allow Liverpool to skip the negotiation stage and speak directly to Inacio about a transfer, meaning a move could happen quickly. Oh, and it would be nice to pre-sign Kylian Mbappe.
