Larry Bird is named the NBA All-Star’s Legend of the Year….
The NBA’s Retired Players Association elected Larry Bird, a native of Indiana and former Boston Celtic, the 2024 Legend of the Year. Before becoming a coach and executive with the Indiana Pacers, Bird won three championships with the Boston Celtics. At the collegiate and professional levels, he is considered as one of the greatest basketball players in history.
Bird received the honor at the Legend’s Brunch, which was held in Indianapolis during the 2024 All-Star Weekend. Known as the “Hick from French Lick,” taking home the trophy in his home state is a noteworthy accomplishment for a player who has greatly boosted the region’s sense of pride. After the ceremony, Bird talked about what it meant to him to get the honor.
Getting acknowledged is always positive, according to Bird. “It is merely an honor.”
Bird went on, “I’ve been in the league for a long time.” “I’ve worked in front offices for more than 20 years, and I’ve played and coached. It’s simply been fantastic for me.
Bird coached the Pacers for three seasons following his retirement from the Celtics. He later joined Indiana’s front office and continues to advise the team to this day. In addition to his outstanding undergraduate career at Indiana State, Bird embodies the epitome of monarchy in these parts.
