Right now, the Los Angeles Lakers have two or three deficiencies in their roster, and almost everyone thinks that one of them is a quality defensive center who can play alongside Anthony Davis or at least cover him occasionally.
Christian Wood is primarily an offensive player, and Jaxson Hayes has only been a marginal contributor who lacks the strength and ability to play positional defense. Los Angeles is now forced to work on developing Colin Castleton as a result of this.
Castleton showed some promise and curiosity in the previous summer league as an undrafted free agent. He didn’t play much for the Lakers last season, but in 12 games during the regular season, he averaged 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 blocked shots, and 53.8% from the field for the South Bay Lakers of the G League.
The 6-foot-10, 250-pound big man was once again signed to a two-way deal by the major league Lakers on Saturday.
Castleton has demonstrated some ability to score inside, box out, rebound, and even assist from the elbow or high post. In 27 minutes, he finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists in Los Angeles’ opening 2024 summer league game on Saturday.
