While witnessing the Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers summer league game in Las Vegas on Monday, player Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics was heard expressing his opinion that “Bronny [James] is a pro.” WNBA players Kysre Gondrezick and Angel Reese were with Brown during the game. Brown continued, “I don’t think so, I think because of his name he’ll be on the Lakers.”
During a guest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Bronny’s agent, Rich Paul, addressed the remarks, stating that he doesn’t think Brown meant any harm by what he said. Paul stated, “I’ve seen some of the material that’s surfaced regarding Jaylen Brown and similar matters.” “You can’t attempt to use everyone’s view against them or believe that the woman who was with him was a bad person or that he is a bad person. No. They are not without opinions. They are free to express whatever they wish.
Paul added that unlike many others who are commenting on Bronny’s performance, Brown is an actual NBA player and an ‘expert.’
Paul went on, “At least he is someone who is genuinely in the league.” Many so-called experts lack expertise. In actuality, he is an expert in his field. He is free to hold that opinion, but I am aware of Jaylen. I’m aware that he doesn’t mean that negatively. He was just chatting to someone. Brown clarified his position on social media by posting a follow-up to his remarks. “Having your son play in the NBA with you is a flex; it shows brilliance and durability! Bronny has everything he needs to succeed around him, and I’m excited to follow his development,” wrote Brown.
Bronny, the Lakers second-round pick out of USC, has appeared in four games for the Lakers this summer. He has averaged 4.3 points per game and shot 22.6% from the field. He has missed all 14 of the three-point shots he has attempted.
