King Charles, ‘So Proud’ of ‘Beloved Daughter-in-Cher
In the midst of learning that Kate Middleton has cancer, King Charles is lending his support.
Following her stomach surgery in January, the 42-year-old Princess of Wales revealed in a private video message on Friday that she is having treatment and that post-operative tests “found cancer had been present.” Charles, 75, is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” a Buckingham Palace representative tells PEOPLE. Charles is also receiving cancer treatment.
A representative for the king states that since his hospitalization at The London Clinic in January, King Charles and Princess Kate have “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.” It is stated that King Charles and Queen Camilla “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.”
The Princess of Wales thanked well-wishers in her tearful video for their “wonderful messages of support” throughout her recuperation, describing the past few months as “an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family.”
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said. “The procedure went well. On the other hand, postoperative tests revealed the presence of malignancy. As a result, my medical team recommended that I start a prophylactic chemotherapy course, which I am currently undergoing.”
Princess Kate and Prince William, describing the news as a “huge shock,” said that they “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” It has taken some time, as you may imagine. I had to take some time off after a big surgery before I could begin my treatment.”
